Cat. 031.1 · The Red Eyes
Mushroom Eyes
Two huge, bulging eyes sit side by side in a fleshy, binocular-like casing, perched on a short stalk that roots into the ground like a mushroom. The pupils roll up and apart, giving a dazed, startled look. Every surface is built from black cross-hatching and curved ink strokes, with white left for the eyeballs and a scratchy shadow at the base. Behind it is nothing but flat, bright red.
Fire-engine red with black and white is loud, absurd and graphic. The eyes sit just below the middle, with empty red above and below, so they stare out at whoever walks past. Large, the hatching gets wonderfully scratchy. It suits a hallway, a studio or a kids' room with nerve.
Hangs well a hallway, studio or bold kids' room
