Head Above

Only one figure is coloured: a solid-blue shape standing in the upper rows of a packed crowd, a head taller than the dozens of round white faces around it. Each white figure is a quick doodle: a blob head with two dot eyes on a body of scratchy vertical lines. A few faces frown or tilt. Above the crowd there is nothing at all, just a flat black sky filling half the frame.

Black, white and one patch of pure blue make up the palette. The empty black top half makes the blue figure sit right at the centre of the print, where the eye lands first. At 9 × 18 in the hand-drawn wobble in each face shows. It suits a minimal room or a home office.
