The Whirlwind

A lone figure in a long dark coat stands with their back to us, one arm bent behind, looking up at an enormous whirlpool of engraved lines that fills the whole sky. The spiral turns from pale gold to deep navy and tightens to a bright eye just above the head. Panelled wooden cabinets edge in from both sides, and a floor of fine horizontal hatching glows yellow underfoot.

Black, navy and soft gold give it a nocturnal, slightly uncanny quiet. The vortex takes the top two thirds, and the tall shape pulls the eye round in long arcs before landing on the small dark figure. At 9 × 18 in the individual engraved lines become the point. Hang it in a reading corner or a dim hallway.
