No. 047, in twelve platesIt's a Blue World
Small people, open doors and a great deal of blue, arranged like the quieter pages of a picture book.
It's a Blue World is printed, or made to look printed, in a fine grain of periwinkle and cornflower, with pink and cream used sparingly like a second ink. Shapes are flat and soft-edged, grasses are single strokes, and stars are white specks. Colour and scale hold the series together: every plate is mostly empty blue, with one small figure placed somewhere you have to look for.
Doors and openings keep recurring. A dark figure stands beside a pink door in the middle of a rippling pond; another waits inside a lit doorway cut into a mound of tall grass; a third crouches by a glowing gateway on the horizon while lines of light run across the ground towards you. There are pools of light, too: an empty cream oval in the reeds, a pink clearing with someone at its centre, a pale hollow holding a figure in a red robe. One plate flips the scheme, with a cream sky, a pink sun and a zigzag path across blue water.
Because the figures are tiny and sit around the middle or lower third, the top of each plate is calm, open colour. The Lock Screen clock has the sky to itself, with only the odd shooting star for company. On the Home Screen the figures may disappear under a row of icons, so treat it as a quiet colour field there; the mid-blue keeps white labels legible, and Cream Sky Path is the one plate that suits a light appearance better.
It suits readers of picture books, people who doodle in margins, and anyone who wants their phone to lower its voice. Three of the twelve plates are free in full resolution; the rest are premium.
Doors stand in fields and ponds, opening onto nothing but more blue.

Tap any plate to hang it on the Lock Screen, then switch to the Home Screen to see it behind your apps. This is the same preview the app gives you, on your own phone, with your own clock.
Every plate here can be ordered as an unframed matte print, from A$59 with free shipping. Or hang three side by side: any three plates from It's a Blue World, 8 × 16 in each, for A$179.

About It's a Blue World.
Which It's a Blue World plate is the least blue?
Cream Sky Path. Its upper half is warm cream with a small pink sun, and the blue is kept to the water below a figure on a zigzag path.
Will I still see the little figures behind my apps?
Not always. They are tiny by design and often sit where a row of icons lands, so use these on the Lock Screen if the figure matters to you.
Are any of them free?
Three are: The Pink Door in the Lake, Rain on the White Hill and Pink Clearing. The other nine are premium, 10 credits apiece in the pxCream app with re-downloads forever, or included in Unlimited.
