Side Table

On cracked, cream-coloured ground stands a low jade-green table with a drawer and an open cubby, set with a ribbed teapot and a single small cup of tea. Behind it the cracked surface turns teal and glassy, mirroring a bank of cumulus clouds upside down. A band of red-orange land runs across the middle, and the real clouds sit above it against deep blue. Flat colour and fine outlines give it an animated-background look.

Teal, jade, cream and a single stripe of red-orange make it still and dreamlike. The tall shape stacks the scene in layers, from table to reflection to horizon to clouds, so the eye climbs slowly. At 9 × 18 in the crackle in the ground becomes a fine pattern. It suits a dining room, a kitchen or a calm bedroom.
