Yellow Door Cottage

A small clapboard cottage painted sky blue sits dead centre, its yellow front door flanked by two sash windows with grey louvred blinds and white trim. A single lamp hangs under the gable point. Two tall palms rise behind the eaves, and past them a thin band of sea meets a pink horizon. The foreground is dry olive grass scattered with pale stones, rendered in a soft, faded digital-paint finish.

Teal sky, cornflower blue, butter yellow and muted olive set a sunny, slightly sun-bleached mood. Most of the height goes to open sky, so the eye drifts down from the palm crowns to the door. At 9 × 18 in the clapboard lines and window blinds read clearly. It suits a bathroom, a beach-house hallway or a bright kids' room.
