Question Marks
Wide, worried eyes and a big glossy nose fill the lower middle of the frame: a floppy-eared puppy sits on wooden floorboards, front paws together, looking up at whatever has confused it. Behind and above its head, thick ribbons of parallel lines loop and tangle, and three question marks are caught in the swirl. Everything is built from dense black and white contour hatching, with no grey at all.
Strict black and white, so it reads like a woodcut or a colouring page. The puppy sits in the bottom half and the tangle of question marks fills the top, which tells the joke in one downward glance. Hatching gets richer at 9 × 18 in. It suits a kid's room, a laundry or a dog lover's study.
