Knot

Thick coils of a black snake loop around and over each other until the body fills every edge of the frame. At the centre the head rests on its own coil, lit softly from above so its small, plate-like scales turn silver. The larger body scales are fine-grained and almost feathery, each one catching a thin highlight. A dark hollow opens inside the loop, and shadows swallow the outer coils.

Black, charcoal and pewter grey, with no other colour at all. Light pools in the middle of the print, so the eye goes straight to the head and then follows the coils outward into darkness. Printed large, the scale texture becomes the whole point. It suits a dark-walled room, a study or a minimal space with black frames.
