Balloon and Long Coat

Against a flat field of tangerine, a man in a long orange coat and striped trousers stands in profile, face tilted up toward the orange balloon he holds on a long string. A white shopping bag hangs from his other hand. A small white cat sits on the ground behind him, looking up too. On the wall ahead is a pale panel, like an intercom or a parked phone.

Almost entirely one orange, with white and black for line and detail. The balloon floats in the upper middle and its string draws a straight line down to the man's hand, so the eye drops from one to the other. Flat colour holds well at 9 × 18 in. It warms up a white kitchen or entry.
