No. 064, in twelve platesAn Orange World
A town painted entirely orange, where people carry balloons, walk dogs on very long leads and peek round doors.
An Orange World is drawn with a thin, even black line and filled with almost nothing: a few white shirts, a stripe of trouser, the odd pale paving slab, and otherwise the same saturated orange from edge to edge. The figures are elongated and slightly deadpan, with tiny heads and long legs, in the tradition of the New Yorker spot drawing. There is no sky and usually no ground beyond a single ink line, so every scene floats in colour and the twelve plates hang together like pages from one picture book.
The stories are small and gently absurd. In Long Leash a tall woman gazes upward while her lead stretches all the way across to a man reading on a bench, and the spotted dog it should belong to wanders off on the left. Two Balloons has a man in a white coat reaching for one balloon while a hand from beyond the frame offers him a second. Peekaboo Door is just a smiling face in glasses leaning out from behind a door edge, beside a doorbell. Elsewhere someone tugs a street tree through a white doorway, a commuter queue shuffles past a parked scooter, and a boy with a balloon stares at a single sneaker in a glass case.
The drawings live in the lower half of the frame, with the balloons rising into the middle, so the upper third is usually open orange for the clock and Lock Screen widgets. Black time reads best on it. On the Home Screen the colour is loud enough that white-tinted icons or dark mode help, and the little figures peek out from between your apps rather than hiding under them.
For anyone who wants a bright phone with a sense of humour, and for collectors of single-colour illustration. Balloon and Long Coat, The Big Balloon and Doorway Selfie can be downloaded free in full resolution; the remaining nine are premium plates in the pxCream app.
Somebody here is always holding a balloon, and nobody explains why.
Try each one on before you save it.
Tap any plate to hang it on the Lock Screen, then switch to the Home Screen to see it behind your apps. This is the same preview the app gives you, on your own phone, with your own clock.
Every plate here can be ordered as an unframed matte print, from A$59 with free shipping. Or hang three side by side: any three plates from An Orange World, 8 × 16 in each, for A$179.

How An Orange World wears.
Playful, sunny, whimsical, quiet. Single-colour fine-line editorial illustration, sized for every iPhone up to 2160 × 4800.
On the Lock Screen
Long Leash keeps all three figures and the dog along the bottom, leaving nearly two-thirds of clear orange above for the time.
On the Home Screen
Peekaboo Door puts one face at mid-height beside a thin vertical line, so icons sit on flat colour around it.
Full resolution, every model
Each plate is delivered at the exact size of your iPhone's screen, up to 2160 × 4800, so nothing is stretched or soft at the edges.

About An Orange World.
Is every plate in An Orange World the same shade of orange?
Very nearly. A few lean slightly redder or more tangerine, but they share one flat background colour, so you can swap between plates without your Home Screen changing temperature.
Why do so many of the drawings include balloons?
Balloons are the running motif: they turn up in five of the twelve plates, held, offered, chased or simply let go, and they give the tall empty sky something to do.
Can I download all twelve without paying?
Three of them. Balloon and Long Coat, The Big Balloon and Doorway Selfie are free in full resolution; the other nine cost 10 credits each, re-downloadable whenever you like once unlocked, or come with an Unlimited subscription.
