Corner Office

A lone man sits at a trestle desk with his back to us, in a room so tall the scarlet walls swallow two thirds of the picture. A small red laptop and a coffee cup share the desk with him. To the left, a cream doorway glows like a cut-out of daylight, and a wedge of orange sun falls across the far wall and floor. Thin black outlines keep everything crisp and flat.

Red does almost all the work: scarlet wall, deeper crimson floor, a slab of orange light and one pale cream door. All that empty colour above the figure is the joke and the point. Up close you notice the cup and the shadow under the chair. It suits a home office, or anyone who works alone and knows the feeling.
