Bowed Head

Seen in profile, a woman with her dark hair pinned low stands with her head bowed and hands loosely clasped, wearing a long teal dress broken into small patches of colour. At her feet a black dog sits looking up at her. Leafy potted plants with tiny white flowers crowd both sides, and the wall behind is laid in square palette-knife strokes, like loose tiles of sage, cream and teal.

Bottle green, teal, sage and a dusky gold haze make it tender and quiet. The bowed head sits near the top and the dog near the bottom, so the eye travels down the line of the dress between them. A large print brings out the ridges of each knife stroke. It suits a bedroom or a room full of plants.
