Lake Rock

Barefoot on a dark boulder at the edge of a choppy lake, a samurai with a topknot stands in profile, one long blade drawn and two more at his hip. A twisted tree leans over him, its flat crown of crimson leaves shedding petals into the air. Steep charcoal mountains close in on both sides. Behind them a huge pale moon hangs in a red sky, crossed by a ring of circling black birds.

Coral red and charcoal do almost everything, with the moon as a soft pale disc. The eye drops from the birds to the moon, through the red canopy, to the small still figure on the rock. A tiny red seal sits in the lower right corner. It suits a dark study, a dojo-style room or a minimal living area.
