Whitecap Crowd

Wave after wave crowds the whole frame with no horizon or sky at all, each one drawn in tight black contour lines. The swells come in four or five blues, from cornflower to deep navy, with broad mustard-yellow swells rolling between them. Small white crests curl over the tops in clusters, scattered evenly from top to bottom. It reads like an inked pattern sheet, flat colour laid under bold linework.

Blue and mustard with white flecks is restless but friendly. With no single focal point, the tall shape works like a strip of patterned fabric; the eye drifts up and down rather than settling. At 9 × 18 in the individual ink lines become a texture of their own. It works in a bathroom, a beach house or a hallway.
