Cat. 065.12 · Birds on Oil
Pelican Turning
Caught as if about to land, legs dangling and wings raised high, a pelican twists its long neck into a curve so its yellow bill points down toward the right edge. Its head is painted bright lemon, the throat white, and the wing feathers are loose daubs of grey, white and mustard. The underbelly falls into slate blue. Behind it, the dark teal ground is blotted and smudged into olive at the bottom.
Deep teal and slate blue lit by streaks of mustard and white. The raised wing fills the upper left and the neck hooks back across the right, so the bird feels caught between moves. Brushwork reads strongly at 9 × 18 in. It suits a moody living room, a coastal house or a study.
Hangs well a moody living room or coastal house
