Kidney Grille, Low Light

Out of the dark comes a gunmetal BMW coupe, caught mid-pan so the car stays sharp while the background smears sideways. Its tall split kidney grille and angular blue-white headlamps are the brightest things in the frame. A rear wing shows over the boot. Above, a pale streak of light crosses near the top, and a band of blurred road runs underneath.

Black, bronze-tinted grey and one cold blue gleam from the lamps. The car sits in the middle third, with deep empty darkness above and below, which makes it feel like it is sliding through the print. Grain shows at 9 × 18 in. Hang it in a dim den, home office or garage.

The edges hold more than first appears. On the left, smeared shapes suggest a lit barrier with a faint green stripe. The front wheel stays nearly sharp, while the tail and rear wing melt into shadow at the right edge.
