No. 068, in eight platesAt Work
A very red room, a very small desk, and someone quietly getting on with it.
At Work is flat, clean-lined illustration with almost nothing in it, and that is the point. Each plate is a room painted one saturated scarlet, so tall the ceiling never appears, with a single pale cream doorway or window cut into the wall and a slab of orange sunlight falling across the floor. The linework is fine and assured, closer to a magazine spot illustration than a cartoon. Red, cream, orange and a little ink: the whole series runs on four colours.
The figure is always a man in shirtsleeves, always tiny, nearly always with his back to us. In Corner Office he types at a laptop beside an open door; in Standing Desk he leans over a table as if a page has just told him something unwelcome; in Reading Corner he has given up on the desk entirely and sits on a folding chair in the far corner, a stack of books at his feet. Small props carry the story: a mug, a potted plant, one crumpled sheet of paper on the floor.
This is about as phone-friendly as a composition gets. The top two-thirds of every plate is uninterrupted red, so the clock and Lock Screen widgets sit on a flat field with nothing to fight. All the action happens in the bottom fifth, right where the dock lives, so on a busy Home Screen the little worker can vanish behind your apps, which some will find rather fitting. White labels read well on the deep red in light and dark mode alike.
It suits people who want a wallpaper that stays out of the way but still says something, and anyone who works alone and recognises the feeling. Two of the plates, Corner Office and Before the Window, are free in full resolution; the other six are premium.
The ceiling never shows up. Neither, it seems, does anyone else.
Try each one on before you save it.
Tap any plate to hang it on the Lock Screen, then switch to the Home Screen to see it behind your apps. This is the same preview the app gives you, on your own phone, with your own clock.
Every plate here can be ordered as an unframed matte print, from A$59 with free shipping. Or hang three side by side: any three plates from At Work, 8 × 16 in each, for A$179.

About At Work.
Does anything in the At Work plates clash with the clock?
No. The top of every plate is plain red with no lines or objects, so the time and widgets sit on a clean field.
Will the little figure be hidden behind my apps?
He sits in the bottom fifth of the frame, near the dock, so a full Home Screen may cover him. The Lock Screen shows him off best.
Can I download all eight?
Yes, though not all for nothing. Corner Office and Before the Window come down free in full resolution; the remaining six unlock for 10 credits each and stay yours to re-download, or open up with Unlimited.
