Cat. 075.1 · Spire of Stones
Castle on the Cairn
Boulders of every size balance in a crooked tower that leans and wobbles up the centre of a white page. Perched on the topmost rock is a tiny castle of needle-thin spires, with one loose stone and a pebble floating away beside it. At the base, broken columns stand in the dust on either side. Everything is drawn in black pen, the rocks shaded with dense crosshatching and short scratchy marks.
Black ink on white with only hatching for grey, so it stays crisp and graphic. The tall shape suits the tower exactly: the eye starts at the ruined columns and climbs rock by rock to the spires near the top. At 9 × 18 in the tiny castle windows become readable. It hangs well in a study or among bookshelves.
Hangs well a study wall or between tall bookshelves
