Scribbled Rooftops

Down in the lower half of a bare cream sheet, three tall townhouses stand shoulder to shoulder, drawn in fast, wiry black pen. Steep pointed roofs, dormer windows and rows of narrow shutters are suggested with a few strokes each, and stray construction lines run past the edges. Under the street line sit five small black tick marks and a sixth in red, like a tally or a signature.

Cream, black ink and one red mark, nothing else. The top half is left empty, so the buildings sit low and the print feels like a page from a sketchbook. Up close at 9 × 18 in the speed of the line is easy to read. It sits well above a desk or in a pale hallway.
