No. 037, in ten platesFluffy Coffee

Fluffy Coffee is drawn like a picture book: fine coloured-pencil strokes for every strand of fur, a stippled shadow under the feet, and a warm cream page around each character. The palette is three notes repeated: coral pink fur, sage green mugs and the buttery off-white of the paper. Whatever their shape, every creature is holding a hot drink and has not yet fully woken up.

The shapes vary more than the moods. A bulky yeti type with an olive face cups a white mug in both hands. A lanky, bald creature sips with a perfectly flat stare. A round fuzzball peers over its cup through heavy lids, and an egg-shaped one sits on a stack of books, eyes wide, as if the caffeine has just landed. There is a pink feather duster on spindly legs holding its steaming mug at arm's length, a horned monster giving a sly sideways smile, a tall worried one with a long nose, and a suspicious type with dark claws and narrowed eyes.

Each creature stands alone in the middle or lower half of a plain cream ground, with plenty of empty paper above, so the clock and widgets sit on a quiet light field. Dark numerals are the better choice. On the Home Screen the light background favours dark labels and a light-mode layout; the character usually stands where your middle rows sit, so a gap there lets them stare back.

For coffee lovers, slow risers and anyone with a soft spot for grumpy, furry characters. The first plate, a sleepy shaggy creature with a small mug, is free in full resolution. The other nine are premium: unlock one at a time for 10 credits each and re-download it forever, or open the whole set with pxCream Unlimited.
