No. 056, in thirteen platesAlpha Tree
Thirteen hills, thirteen trees, and one long golden hour that never quite ends.
Alpha Tree is landscape photography reduced to a single idea. A solitary tree stands on the crest of a grassy rise, late sun raking across the slopes, and everything else is sky. The palette barely moves from frame to frame: deep moss in the shadows, honey and amber where the light catches the grass, and a dusk that fades from slate overhead to peach and rose near the horizon.
The variations are in the weather and the ground. One tree sits under a heap of pink cumulus that dwarfs it; another shelters beneath a single cloud bank lit from below. One stands with blue mountain ranges folded behind its knoll, and one leans a little, trunk bent as if it has been listening to the wind for years. A sapling barely taller than the grass waits under a strip of pale light, and one plate breaks the mood entirely with a round, dark tree on a flat green field under a blue and gold sky.
This is about as clock-friendly as a composition gets. In almost every plate the tree sits at or just below the middle, leaving a tall, smooth gradient above for the time and any Lock Screen widgets. The bottom third darkens to near black in the long grass, so the dock and the bottom row of icons land in shadow, and white labels stay sharp in light and dark mode alike.
It suits minimalists, walkers, and anyone who wants their phone to feel like a long exhale at the end of the day. Three of the thirteen, Under the Cumulus, Broad Crown and Mountain Behind, are free in full resolution; the rest are premium.
One tree, one hill, and a whole sky left over for the clock.
Try each one on before you save it.
Tap any plate to hang it on the Lock Screen, then switch to the Home Screen to see it behind your apps. This is the same preview the app gives you, on your own phone, with your own clock.
Every plate here can be ordered as an unframed matte print, from A$59 with free shipping. Or hang three side by side: any three plates from Alpha Tree, 8 × 16 in each, for A$179.

On the Home Screen
Long grass darkens toward the bottom edge, giving the dock and lower icons a shadowed base.

About Alpha Tree.
Is it the same tree in every Alpha Tree plate?
No. Each plate shows a different lone tree on a different rise, from a thin sapling to a broad, spreading crown. The light and the mood are what stay constant.
Which plate is the brightest?
Green Field, Blue Sky, with its round dark tree under a clear blue and gold sky, is the lightest of the thirteen. The rest sit in deeper dusk tones.
