No. 088, in eight platesNYC in Winter
Cold hands, tall buildings, and a city printed in two inks on cream.
NYC in Winter is drawn as manga, then aged like an old paperback. Black ink and dot-screen halftone sit on a warm newsprint cream, with soft grain and the occasional fleck of snow, and there is no other colour at all. What ties the eight plates together is the camera: almost always low, looking up, so skyscrapers rise behind each figure like canyon walls and the sky narrows to a pale slot at the top of the frame.
The cast is a handful of young women dressed for the cold. In Gloved Whisper a girl with a sharp bob presses both gloved hands to her mouth; in Hello, Stranger another, wide-eyed and wrapped in a thick scarf, reaches toward the viewer as a car waits behind her. Windblown is pure profile, a topknot whipped sideways against a round-topped tower. The quietest plate, Street Canyon, pulls right back to show a girl in an oversized coat and chunky trainers walking between apartment blocks that seem to go up forever. No landmark pins the city down; it is winter downtown, wherever you happen to be.
The skies are pale cream, so a white clock can wash out; choose a dark or tinted clock colour in the Lock Screen editor and it sits crisply over the towers. Faces land high in the close-ups, such as Gloved Whisper and Hand Over Mouth, which means the time may graze a fringe, while Takeaway Cup and Street Canyon keep their figures lower and leave the most sky. On a Home Screen, the dark coats fill the middle and bottom of the frame, giving white labels something solid to stand on.
It suits manga readers, fans of black and white photography and anyone who likes winter more as a mood than a temperature. Over the Shoulder and Gloved Whisper are free to download in full resolution, and the remaining six are premium.
Two inks, one cold afternoon, and buildings that will not stop going up.

How NYC in Winter wears.
Wintry, moody, urban, nostalgic. Sepia manga ink with halftone grain, sized for every iPhone up to 2160 × 4800.
On the Lock Screen
Pale cream skies take a dark clock beautifully; Takeaway Cup and Street Canyon leave the most open space.
On the Home Screen
Dark coats fill the lower half, so white labels sit on deep ink rather than cream paper.
Full resolution, every model
Each plate is delivered at the exact size of your iPhone's screen, up to 2160 × 4800, so nothing is stretched or soft at the edges.

About NYC in Winter.
Is this a real New York?
The collection is named for New York in winter, but the plates show generic towers and streets rather than recognisable landmarks, so they read as any big city in the cold.
What clock colour works best with NYC in Winter?
A black or deep grey clock. The skies are pale cream, so a dark clock stays sharp while white tends to fade into the paper.
Are the plates free?
Over the Shoulder and Gloved Whisper are, at full resolution. The other six are premium, 10 credits each in the pxCream app with re-downloads forever, or all included with Unlimited.
