No. 036, in thirteen platesLadies of Motorsports
Thirteen portraits of women who drive for a living, drawn in the ink and faded colour of an old anime cel.
Ladies of Motorsports borrows its look from 1980s anime and European bande dessinée: fine black linework, flat colour laid in like paint on a cel, and a palette that leans to khaki, bone, olive and dusty sage, with racing red saved for overalls and bodywork. Each plate is a full-length portrait. A woman stands in front of her car, helmet tucked under an arm or still on her head, and either meets your eye or looks past you toward the track.
The cars are as varied as the drivers. Headphones and 86 parks a long-tailed red endurance coupe behind a racer in crimson overalls; Number 98 and Mint Coupe Stroll pair cream suits with low sports cars on a city street and in a concrete garage. Most of the others stand beside open-wheel single-seaters in red and white, wings and fat tyres sketched with real affection. Gold Chains and Aviators in Red add attitude in the form of sunglasses and jewellery. Two for the Hills is the cheeriest plate, a blonde driver throwing her arms up while a team-mate grins from the cockpit, and Crouched in the Pits adds a young helper in headphones at her feet.
Because the portraits are full-length and upright, heads tend to sit in the upper third, close to where the Lock Screen clock lands. Plates with the helmet on, such as Visor Down and Garage Number Eight, sit comfortably behind the time; on the others, a quick adjustment of the crop keeps the digits off a face. The muted khaki ground is mid-toned, so white labels hold up on the Home Screen and the red details peek out between icons.
A collection for women in motorsport and the people who cheer them on, karting families, anime fans with a soft spot for the 1980s, and anyone who admires good posture in fireproof clothing. Walking Out Together, Number 98 and Headphones and 86 are free downloads in full resolution; the other ten are premium. The characters are invented, not portraits of real drivers.

About Ladies of Motorsports.
Are the women in these wallpapers real racing drivers?
No. Every character is invented for this series. The drawings pay tribute to the look of 1980s racing and anime rather than to any particular driver.
What art style is Ladies of Motorsports drawn in?
Retro anime with fine ink outlines and flat, slightly faded colour, close to a hand-painted animation cel. Khaki and cream dominate, with red reserved for overalls and cars.
How many of the thirteen are free?
Three: Walking Out Together, Number 98 and Headphones and 86, all in full resolution without charge. The remaining ten are premium at 10 credits each, re-downloadable forever, or included with an Unlimited subscription.
