La Playa is drawn in loose pencil with washes of coral and mint laid over cream paper, the kind of quick, confident sketch you might make from a balcony above the sand. Everything is seen from directly overhead. Striped umbrellas become round targets, towels become rectangles, and sandals, starfish and shells fill the gaps. The two-colour palette and the bird's-eye view keep all eight plates in step.
Some plates are crowded: Packed Shore tiles the screen edge to edge with coral, mint and white parasols, and Towel Season swaps umbrellas for a jumble of striped towels and deckchairs. Others relax. Five Umbrellas lines up five canopies in a loose column with flip-flops between them, and Flip-Flops and Starfish moves in close enough to count the sunglasses. In To the Waterline and Shells by the Surf, a pale mint sea finally appears at the bottom edge. The first two plates add a few people, sunbathers on mats and a woman in a red dress strolling past.
This is an all-over pattern, so be honest with yourself about your clock. Most plates put umbrellas right where the time sits; Shells by the Surf is the exception, with its upper half left as bare sand. The light ground suits a light appearance and dark labels, and because there is no single focal point, Home Screen icons simply join the pattern rather than covering anything important.

Which La Playa plate has a quiet spot for the clock?
Shells by the Surf. Its umbrellas and towels run in a diagonal band through the lower half, leaving plain cream sand at the top of the screen.
Are there people in the drawings?
Only a few, in the first two plates: sunbathers on striped mats and a woman in a red dress. The rest show umbrellas, towels, sandals and shells.
