No. 085, in twelve platesDark Flowers
Tulips drawn in ivory and taupe on a ground the colour of strong coffee: botanical plates for the after-hours.
Dark Flowers is one botanical idea worked twelve ways. Tulips, with the odd lily and narcissus slipped in, are drawn in a fine, painterly line and tinted ivory, oatmeal and dusty rose, then set on an espresso brown that verges on black. There is no green anywhere, not even in the leaves, which share the pale taupe of the petals. That discipline gives the series the feel of an old sepia print.
The plates differ in density and scale rather than subject. Some are generous with space, three or four big cupped blooms floating on the brown among long, arching leaves; the cleanest has a single white tulip high in the frame with a blush bloom below. Others are crowded, petals overlapping from edge to edge with buds, star-shaped lilies and flared tulips showing their dark stamens. A few are close cousins of one another, so swapping between them changes the detail but never the mood.
Because the flowers run off every edge, there is no blank sky waiting for the clock; the time will sit over petals. In the sparser plates the brown shows through at the top, giving white numerals a dark gap to stand in. On a Home Screen the deep ground is comfortable for white labels, and the soft, low-contrast flowers sit back rather than fight with app icons for attention.
It will appeal to anyone with a taste for vintage botanical prints, warm neutral interiors, or a tan leather phone case. Tall Tulips, Open Lily and Dense Bouquet are free in full resolution; the other nine are premium.
Not a leaf of green in the whole bouquet.

About Dark Flowers.
Are the Dark Flowers plates all tulips?
Mostly. Tulips lead every plate, with occasional lilies, narcissi and buds among them, all drawn in the same ivory and taupe tones.
Will these look too heavy on a light Home Screen?
They read as warm brown rather than black, so they work in light mode, but they look richest with dark mode, where the pale flowers glow against the ground.
