Linocut is a hard medium to be subtle in, and these plates do not try. Every figure is cut from parallel gouge marks, the lines following the curve of a cheek or the fold of a sleeve, and inked in only three colours: a hot magenta, a warm amber and a cool slate that doubles as the shadow. The background is the same dark navy as the uncut block. Eight plates, all crowds, all packed to the edges.

Look closely and the crowd breaks into stories. A woman raises a microphone while arms lift around her. A tram and a bus crawl along the top of two plates, half buried in people. A man punches the air beside someone carrying a dish with a flower of flame in it. A woman shoulders a long pole as she walks; another in a pink dress passes a cart wheel at a market. One plate turns its back on you entirely, a river of people walking away toward market stalls and awnings, while the last is all conversation, couples leaning in to talk.

There is no empty sky anywhere in this set, which matters on a phone. The clock will always sit over faces and pattern, so lean on the bold system font and a Lock Screen with depth effect switched off. On the Home Screen, though, the all-over texture becomes an advantage: icons and widgets simply float on it like stickers on a poster wall, and the dark navy ground keeps white labels legible.
