No. 060, in sixteen platesCountryside Sketches
A pen goes for a drive in the country and leaves only its tracks behind.
Countryside Sketches uses nothing but a fine black pen on a cream ground. No shading, no colour, no fills. Fields are rows of parallel strokes that bend over hills like corduroy; trees are lollipop crowns stuffed with tiny scalloped leaves; the sky is either empty or ruled with long vertical lines that fall like rain or a curtain. Each plate puts one small vehicle somewhere near the edge, so the landscape does the talking and the traveller is a footnote.
The cast of vehicles is surprisingly varied. Avenue of Furrows sends a sports coupe straight at you down a road that dissolves into furrows between two clipped hedges. Ruled Sky and Falling Lines draw a rear-winged coupe with the unmistakable silhouette of a Porsche 911, while Wedge Under the Hill parks a low supercar beneath a giant sweeping hatched slope. Scooter Lane has a helmeted rider on a Vespa-style scooter curling along a looped road. Circle Sun leaves a lorry tiny under a hand-drawn ring of a sun, and Harvest Truck carries a load of produce past dotted crop rows.
Most plates leave the upper half almost bare, which makes these unusually polite Lock Screens: the clock sits on blank cream, and the drawing gathers below where the dock and widgets live. Black text on cream is easy to read, so light mode is the natural fit. If you prefer a dark Home Screen, Car on the Horizon and Ruled Sky carry enough line in the top half to give white labels something to sit on.
This series is for designers, pen-and-notebook people and drivers who prefer the B-road to the motorway. Four of the sixteen plates are free in full resolution, and the other twelve are premium.
Every hill is ploughed with the same patient pen.
Try each one on before you save it.
Tap any plate to hang it on the Lock Screen, then switch to the Home Screen to see it behind your apps. This is the same preview the app gives you, on your own phone, with your own clock.
Every plate here can be ordered as an unframed matte print, from A$59 with free shipping. Or hang three side by side: any three plates from Countryside Sketches, 8 × 16 in each, for A$179.

How Countryside Sketches wears.
Calm, sparse, wandering, gentle. Fine black line drawing on cream, sized for every iPhone up to 2160 × 4800.
On the Lock Screen
Circle Sun leaves a wide sheet of blank cream above the trees, the ring of the sun sitting beside the time.
On the Home Screen
Scooter Lane keeps its line work in two bands low on the screen, so icons rest on clean paper above.
Full resolution, every model
Each plate is delivered at the exact size of your iPhone's screen, up to 2160 × 4800, so nothing is stretched or soft at the edges.

About Countryside Sketches.
Is there any colour in Countryside Sketches?
None at all. Every plate is black line on a warm cream ground, which is why they sit so quietly behind a light Home Screen.
What vehicles appear in the drawings?
Sports coupes and a roadster, two motorbikes, a scooter and several lorries and trucks. Each one is small and placed near an edge, so the fields and trees fill most of the frame.
Are the sixteen drawings free?
Four are: Avenue of Furrows, Scooter Lane, Ruled Sky and Contour Hill Roadster. The other twelve are premium, unlocked for 10 credits each in the pxCream app and re-downloadable forever, or all together with Unlimited.
