A yellow car head-on on a floor of red and orange squares, two dark cars behind, between crimson walls

No. 059, in eight platesColourful Formula One

Red ink, yellow ink, and a track that runs straight to the horizon.

Picture a silkscreen workshop with only two buckets left, both of them hot. Colourful Formula One works almost entirely in crimson, cadmium yellow and the orange where they overlap, with the odd navy shadow for weight. The cars are flat shapes on ink-black tyres, and the tracks are built from ruled lines that converge on a single point, so each plate drags the eye down the straight like an interwar travel poster retuned for the grid.

Ruled Straight and Banded Horizon are close to pure geometry: a fan of stripes and two or three cars riding them toward the skyline. Tiled Grid swaps the stripes for a floor of squares receding between blank crimson walls, more stage set than circuit, with a yellow car dead centre. Pit Building and Colonnade Bend bring in architecture, a long grandstand in one and a row of arches in the other, while Three Abreast lines up a trio of racers below tower blocks. Two plates break ranks with a modern car. Distressed Print looks like a poster scraped half off a wall, and Sun Over the Stands throws navy spray under a burning orange sun.

There is very little dark in this room, and that is the point. Your clock will sit on a sheet of yellow or crimson, so it reads best with a white or deep red Lock Screen font. Vanishing points mostly fall in the upper third, which means the time lands near the horizon and the cars arrive underneath it. On the Home Screen the stripes make a lively floor for icons; Tiled Grid and Pit Building are the calmer choices, and a dark tinted icon style keeps every label clear.

Made for people who want a phone that looks like a race poster rather than a photo of a race: graphic designers, print collectors and fans of the louder decades of the sport. Ruled Straight and Pit Building are free, in full resolution; the other six are premium.

About Colourful Formula One.

Why is everything red and yellow?

The series is drawn with a deliberately tiny palette, like a two-ink screenprint. Limiting the colours is what makes the converging stripes and flat cars read as posters rather than pictures.

Will the clock be readable on such bright colours?

Yes, with one tweak: choose a white or dark red clock colour when you customise the Lock Screen. The upper third of most plates is flat colour, so there is no detail behind the digits.

Is Colourful Formula One free?

Partly. Ruled Straight and Pit Building download in full resolution without charge. The other six are premium, 10 credits each in the pxCream app and re-downloadable forever, or unlocked together by Unlimited.
