No. 004, in twelve platesBlue Lemons

Despite the name, the lemons in Blue Lemons are as yellow as they come. The blue belongs to everything around them: the leaves, inked in indigo instead of green, and the doors, shutters, bottles and walls they hang over. Drawn in flat, slightly weathered print style with speckled grain and chalky cream plaster, the twelve plates hold to just three colours, which is why they look like one long walk down a single street.

The street is unmistakably Mediterranean in spirit. Whitewashed Door shows a cottage with a blue door and a lemon branch drooping over its roof tiles. Little Blue Car parks a small blue Fiat 500 by a peeling wall with fruit rolling around its tyres, and Scooter Stop leaves a Vespa-style scooter under a tree that is dropping lemons on the paving. Market Table is the still life of the set: straw hats, a wicker basket heaped with fruit and clear bottles on a striped cloth. Sandals at the Door adds washing on a line and two lemons waiting on the tiles.

Most compositions put a band of open blue sky or plain plaster across the top, so the Lock Screen clock sits on flat colour, often with a lemon branch reaching in from one corner to frame it. The detail gathers in the lower half, doors, cars and fallen fruit, which sits behind the dock without fighting it. The saturated cobalt holds up well under white labels in dark mode, and the cream plates such as Lemon Doorway lift a light Home Screen.

It suits anyone who daydreams about a summer in a coastal village, lemon tree gardeners, and people who like their colour bold but uncluttered. Whitewashed Door, Little Blue Car and Balcony Branch are free in full resolution, while the other nine are premium in the pxCream app.
