No. 080, in eight platesVector Bold Portrait

This is poster art at its most economical. Each portrait is assembled from flat vector shapes with no gradients at all: a black helmet of hair, a cream or slate face, two or three tones of shadow cut like paper, and a red so loud it almost hums. Slate blue and a soft sky grey cool things down. The family resemblance is strong, a sharp fringe or a cropped cut, eyes closed or half closed, chin lifted.

The settings are sketched in a few strokes. One woman tilts her head back against stripes of navy and red. Another, with a hoop earring, sits in front of an orange sun, black palm trees and a sea where a red sailboat crosses the horizon. A bob with red highlights glances over a bare shoulder in front of a scarlet disc and tall reeds. Later plates bring in nature: red poppies blooming at a collarbone, a face in slate blue among orange leaves, a swimmer rising eyes-closed from a red lake under navy foliage, and a buzz-cut figure with a steady stare behind red and teal leaves.

Most faces sit in the upper half, tilted up, which means the clock will brush a forehead or a fringe. Plates with a sun disc, such as Red Sun Bob and Orange Disc, leave a cleaner curve of colour above the head. On the Home Screen the large flat shapes are kind to icons; red is bright enough that dark labels and white labels both work, depending on where they land.

Made for lovers of mid-century posters, fashion illustration and a phone that announces itself. Head Back and Hoop and Sail are free to download in full resolution; the other six portraits are premium.
