Every plate here is built the slow way: thousands of fine pen lines laid side by side until they become a surface. Some patches are combed straight, some ripple like wood grain, some are cross-hatched into tight mesh. The palette never strays far from ink on paper, black, chalk white and a run of greys, with a cool slate blue let in here and there like a faded denim patch.

The compositions behave like textiles. Braided Ribbons weaves tall strands of white, grey and powder blue over one another; Harlequin tilts cream and slate diamonds into a diagonal lattice; Grain is nothing but horizontal currents of line, broken by two dark bands. Stitched Lenses adds tiny running stitches along its curved seams, and Ink Blots closes the set with a grid of netted squares, a few of them spotted with round black drops.

Because the texture covers the whole frame, none of these plates has an empty sky for the clock. The time sits on top of pattern instead, which works best with the bolder Lock Screen fonts and the lighter plates such as Harlequin or Braided Ribbons. On the Home Screen the fine hatching reads as a soft grey field behind icons; the darker Slate Crossing and Charcoal Plots keep white labels sharpest.
